The Origin of
Bailout Human Synthesis
In my background (military and diving) we have something called “Bailout.” When something goes wrong with a rebreather, you bail out. It’s a safety procedure to get back to the surface alive. It’s a last resort, but it’s a well-tested and effective procedure. When lives are at stake, you have to be prepared for the unexpected.
But here, it’s about something much more substantial. Empowering people to deal with critical situations when the pressure is on, using the principles of systems thinking and human-centered design.

It’s based on the above principle but for the world beyond diving and military operations. Here, bailout isn’t about rebreathers or emergency protocols. It’s about how we, as humans, adapt and thrive in complex and unpredictable environments. Whether it’s critical business decisions, volatile markets, or any situation where the stakes are high and the answers are unclear, the human element is what often makes the difference.
It’s about creating clarity and the ability to deal with uncertainty. Whether it’s the deep ocean, military operations, or the complex dynamics of entrepreneurship and technology.
Human
It represents the role of the Human Element in everything we do. Our decisions, our interactions and our impact on the systems we operate in. It is about understanding how we engage with our environment, with other people, but also with the machines and technology that increasingly shape our world.
It is not just about reacting to crises, but about the engineering of resilience, adaptability and skills to always be one step ahead. Even in VUCA (Volatile, Uncertain, Complex and Unclear) situations.
Synthesis

It is where everything comes together. It draws from Systems Thinking and Design Thinking. It is about integrating all the moving parts. Different perspectives, challenges and tools, to create solutions that are greater than the sum of their parts. In synthesis, we consider the whole, because in complex environments, no single factor operates in isolation. The decision-making process becomes a dynamic, living system where human judgment is the cornerstone.
It is the process of integrating systems thinking, design and the many dimensions of human behavior so that we do not simply react to situations, but anticipate them, learn from them and act intelligently. In the uncertain world of VUCAH, we prepare people to excel by seeing the big picture and thinking beyond the obvious.
